13 people including sex workers who were arrested last weekend from a brothel at Kireka Tower Guest House in Namugongo Division, Kira Municipality in Wakiso District “dancing naked” have been sent back on remand at Kitalya Government Prison until 13th November, 2020.

The group comprising of 11 women, two men and the owner of the Brothel Ms Sharon Amutusimire are facing six counts that include disobedience of lawful orders, neglect acts likely to spread infection of disease, indescent practices, prostitution, keeping a brothel and promoting trafficking in persons.

Prosecution alleges that on 10th October, 2020 at 10:00hrs at the said Guest House, the group disobeyed the Presidential Curfew Directive and engaged in a social gathering while having an indoor sex party/nude dance – an act they knew to be likely to spread  infection of a disease dangerous to human life; COVID-19.

Kira Court Grade One Magistrate Esther Nahirya sent them back on remand after their Lawyer Ronald Ewalo from Hope Focus Uganda informed court that his clients needed to change their plea from guilty to not guilty which turn of events prosecution objected to and a ruling has been reserved for  13th November, 2020.

“Magistrate Nahirya who had come today ready to pass their sentence will now have to decide whether the convicts can change their earlier plea of guilty to not guilty.” Josephine Kyomuhendo, a Lawyer following the case told The Ugandan Wire.

They first appeared before the Chief Magistrate Court at Kira in Wakiso District this Wednesday and admitted to the crime and were remanded until today when their case was conducted at Kampala’s Buganda Road Court via video conferencing that is connected to Kitalya Government Prison.

Observers protested the arrest saying that the said ladies were arrested with men in the Sex Party but the said men are nowhere to be seen in the case.
