The High Court is set to resume hearing of the Kanyamunyu murder case on 20th October – Tuesday next week. 70 case files of capital offenders have been scheduled for hearing in two criminal sessions that have started before the High Court in Kampala.

The criminal session for 30 cases most of whose accused persons are on bail has started today before Justice Flavia Anglin Ssenoga while the criminal session of 40 cases for Justice Stephen Mubiru; who will also be resuming the murder trial of  Kanyamunyu Mathew Muyogoma, Munwangari Cynthia and Kanyamunyu Joseph is scheduled to start on Tuesday 20th October next week.

The Kanyamunyus are alleged to have murdered Social Worker Kenneth Akena on 12th November, 2016 by shooting after Akena, the deceased, reportedly knocked Kanyamunyu’s car at Lugogo in Kampala.

According to Judiciary’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) Jamson Karemani the public is not allowed to attend both Criminal Sessions due to the COVID-19 Pandemic Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that will only  require  the presence of the accused persons, Lawyers, witnesses and Court  Assessors.

Karemani also clarified that they are treating Kanyamunyu’s case as part heard because they have not received any formal communication over media reports that Mathew Kanyamunyu  approached the deceased’ family for an amicable settlement.
