Nabilah, Lukwago Stagnate City As EC Rounds Up Local Gov’t Nominations

Incumbent Kampala City Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, and National Unity Platform’s (NUP) Nabilah Naggayi Sempala the current Woman Member of Parliament (MP) for Kampala District today found their way to the Kampala Electoral Commission regional office in Ntinda for nomination with swarms of supporters.

Lukwago, who is seeking to run on the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party ticket is a new recruit in the party after he crossed over from the Democratic Party (DP) where he had been a lifetime member.

Predicted by many to be the strongest candidate in the party at the moment, even bigger than their Presidential Aspirants, Lukwago didn’t waste time in proving those assumptions today as he made his way to nomination.

Musician Joseph Mayanja alias Dr. Jose Chameleon will also be nominated to run for Lord Mayor after being rejected by NUP twice; first choosing MP Latif Ssebaggala over him and later MP Nabilah Sempala when Mr. Ssebaggala pulled out of the race.

The other aspirants in the race are Musician Daniel Kazibwe alias Raga Dee of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), Ms Beatrice Kayanja of the Democratic Party (DP), Isaac Sendagire and Innocent Kawooya, both independents.

The nomination of Local government candidates including councilors, division mayors and lord mayors ends tomorrow at various Electoral Commission regional offices.
