Two children have been sentenced to a “Caution” after pleading guilty to engaging in sexual intercourse below the age of 18 years.

The boy aged 16 years and the girl aged 17 years have pleaded guilty to simple defilement before Buganda Road Court Chief Magistrate Miriam Okello Ayo.

They admitted that on 15th September, 2020 at Nalukolongo in Kampala District they performed a sexual act contrary to section 129(1) of the Penal Code Act.

The girl, being a shop attendant at Nalukolongo invited the 16 year old boy who is a resident of Mutundwe Kabaawo zone to  her shop;  where a neighbour who saw them  alerted the girl’s parent that consequently reported the case of defilement and theft of Shs 2M at police; not knowing that her own daughter had equally committed a crime.

Magistrate Okello while sentencing them also cautioned the parents who were present in court to realize their duty  of raising these children by engaging them in hand work that keeps their mind occupied and to also teach them that having sex below the age of 18 years is illegal and attracts a maximum sentence of 3 years imprisonment upon conviction.

The Magistrate, however, reserved this sentence for these two juvenile offenders  saying there is a children’s prison where they will be taken if they repeat the same mistake and are brought back to her.

Magistrate Okello advised the boy and girl to go back and make a difference by being law abiding, good children and always stay safe.
