The National Unity Platform (NUP), the political wing of Kyadondo East Legislator and presidential hopeful Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu’s People Power has rejected artiste Jose Chameleon for flag bearer of the party in the hotly contested Kampala Lord Mayor race.

In a list that the embattled political party has released on social media, the party electoral commission favored Kawempe North MP Latif Ssebaggala Ssengendo as the candidate that will secure them victory.

MP Ssebaggala will face incumbent Lord Mayor and newly recruited Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) member Erias Lukwago in the general election in 2021.

Hamdam Ssemugooma and Paul Mugambe were selected as flag bearers for Divisions Kampala Central and Nakawa. Kasirye Nganda Ali was picked for Makindye while Zacchy Mberaaze Mawula was picked for Rubaga as Emmanuel Sserunjoji ‘Ow’eddembe’ was tipped to regain Kawempe Division.

Artiste Chameleon, initially a member of the Democratic Party (DP) switched over to the National Unity Platform (NUP) slightly over a month ago with the hope of being endorsed for Lord Mayor.

A former music nemesis of Bobi Wine’s, Chameleone supported President Museveni in the 2016 presidential election having featured uniquely on the Tubonga Naawe NRM campaign song.

In a statement, the party EC also released successful candidates for Councillor up to LCV around Kampala, Mukono and Wakiso. The list of MPs is yet to be released.
