Iganga District Central Market is set to be rehabilated by government. This development comes after various petitions were submitted to Parliament over the issue.

Some of the known petitions are those by former Member of Parliament (MP) Hon Olivia Kabaale and another by People Power MP hopeful, Francis Muganga.

The market, according to our sources in the district, is currently highly incapacitated and in ‘unhealthy’ conditions for the vendors and the community at large.

Announcing to his supporters, Mr Muganga congratulated the entire district and all stakeholders for their efforts towards the rehabilitation of the market.

“In the month of November, 2019, I stormed Parliament in a bid to request for the Rehabilitation of Iganga Central Market upon which I handed over our request in writing to the Hon. Speaker of Parliament, Alitwala Rebecca Kadaga.” Muganga told our reporter.

He affirmed to this website that yesterday, he received a letter from the Ministry of Local Government authored by the Permanent Secretary Mr. Ben Kumumanya and dated 23rd March, 2020 in which he (the PS) addresses the Town Clerk, Iganga Municipal Council about the development.

The letter in brief indicates that the Ministry has considered the rehabilitation of a Market in Iganga Municipality and that the Town Clerk must provide a copy of the title deed where the market is located, a copy of the vendors’ register & a copy of the market management structure.

“The letter further says that the above requirements must be provided by the 17th day of April, 2020. Having spoken to the concerned, I have been reliably informed that the aforementioned have already been submitted.” A proud Muganga affirmed to our reporter.
