The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with authorization from the Ministry of Health has evacuated over 10 Ugandans back into the country, having been stranded in Addis Ababa for a while – without any means back home.

The evacuation comes days after Ugandans appealed to the government to help bring back home, Ugandan citizens that were trapped in outside countries and worried for their lives.

According to the Executive Director of the Uganda Media Centre, Ofwono Opondo, who also doubles as the Government Spokesperson, this first batch of Ugandans was lucky that there was an Addis Ababa – Entebbe flight that played in their favour and gov’t asked that they be evacuated.

According to Mr Opondo, the conditions for their evacuation were that they quarantine themselves for a period of 14 days with regular check-ups from the Ministry of Health until such a time that they’re declared safe to mix with the population.

Needless to say, the quarantine will be at their cost. The 13 Ugandans are;

  1. Barbra Kavuya
  2. Blanche Kibaju
  3. Isaiah Tiba Byabashaija
  4. Kagoya Hassifa
  5. Prof Oswald Kyamuresile
  6. Wodulo Denis
  7. Ojakol Ernest
  8. Ajoan Julius
  9. Dr. Obuku Andrew
  10. Naiga Vivienne
  11. Namuli Susan
  12. Walusansa Samuel
  13. Mugisha Leens Bernard
