The errant Local Defence Unit (LDU) personnel in Masaka who shot and killed a boda boda man that was trying to carry a pregnant woman to the hospital was killed in a fire exchange with Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) soldiers that attempted to arrest him.

According to the UPDF spokesperson Brig Richard Karemire, the LDU man wasn’t killed by a mob as has been taunted on some social media platforms earlier today.

Brig Karemire, who went to Masaka for the operation, addressed the media today, condemning the actions of the member of the UPDF reserve force who killed two people in cold blood. After shooting the boda boda man at point blank range, the LDU man badly injured the pregnant woman whom we have learnt died in the hospital thereafter.

“We condemn the killing by a reservist today in Masaka of two civilians . The killer has been shot dead in a fire fight with a UPDF squad while resisting arrest .We convey deepest condolences to bereaved families. Investigations into the incident have commenced.” Brig Karemire said.
