Following the recent outbreak of COVID-19 commonly known as the coronavirus, the president of Uganda H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni today addressed the nation in an effort to highlight the measures that should be taken to avoid this pandemic.

Uganda is among the very few nations in the world that havent recorded a single case of this pandemic all thanks to the vigilance of the government and particulary the Ministry of Health, however, there is great need for the general public to take up the mantle and exhibit high levels of vigilance.

In his address today, the president highlighted fourteen measures Ugandans and the government should take in order to remain in control of the situation.

Among the highlighted measures was restrictions on large gatherings especially at burials, and other situations that bring various clans from all compass points which the president refered to as “pentagon” gatherings.

In event of death in the next thirty days, the deceased shall be buried by close neighbouring relatives and neighbours, people dont have to travel for burials.

He went ahead to highlight that in the event of a person dying as a result of the coronavirus, the State shall be incharge of the burial as a measure to avoid the spread the virus – relating it to how the situation was handled when the country faced epidemics of Ebola, Marburg, Swine Flu, and Cholera.
